The town shuttle, stop by stop
Springdale runs its own free bus along the boulevard, separate from the one inside the park. It is simple once you know which end is which, and almost every list of its stops online is either incomplete or years out of date.

Two different buses, and people mix them up constantly
Springdale has a town shuttle. The park has a canyon shuttle. They are run by different people, they go to different places, and they do not touch.
The town shuttle
Free. Runs the length of Zion Park Boulevard through Springdale, nine stops, first bus at 8:00am, round trip 20 to 30 minutes. It stops outside the park at the pedestrian entrance and turns around.
The canyon shuttle
Also free, but you need a paid park entry to reach it. Runs from the visitor center up the scenic drive, nine stops, first bus at 7:00am, about 45 minutes end to end. Full detail on the canyon line.
The gap between them is a footbridge. You ride the town bus to its park end, walk through the pedestrian entrance, pay or show your pass, cross the river and you are at the visitor center where the canyon buses load. Ten minutes at a normal walking pace, and it is the part nobody tells you about.
All nine, park end first
Stops are named for the businesses beside them rather than for streets, which is convenient until a business changes its name. Read the numbers, not the names.

Where this list comes from, and why we are labelling it
The National Park Service publishes only the two ends of this route, stop 1 at Zion Canyon Village and stop 9 at Hotel de Novo. The nine stop list above is the one published by the Utah Office of Tourism, and it matches the park at both ends. We checked it against other published lists and found several that disagree completely, naming businesses that have since changed hands or closed. If a list you find elsewhere contradicts this one, it is probably older, not newer. Verified September 2026.
Stop 1 is the park, not the start of town
The numbering runs from the park outward. So the higher the stop number, the further you are from the entrance.
Most people assume a bus route numbers itself in the direction of travel from where the driver starts the shift. This one does not. The first bus of the day begins at stop 9, the far end of town, and works its way down the numbers toward the park.
That is worth knowing when you book a room. A hotel at stop 2 is a short ride or a walk from the entrance. A hotel at stop 8 is the length of the town away, which is fine when the bus is running and a long walk when it is not. How to judge a hotel’s position properly.
It also means that in the morning, buses fill as they come down the numbers. If you are staying at stop 3 in July and the bus rolls past full, that is why. The answer is the same one that works everywhere in Zion: go earlier.
Town bus, footbridge, canyon bus

- Step 1Walk to your nearest numbered stop
They are spaced along the boulevard and signed. Your hotel will know its number and it is worth asking at check in rather than working it out in the dark at 6:30am.
- Step 2Ride down the numbers to stop 1
Zion Canyon Village. This is as far as the town bus goes. Free, no ticket, no pass.
- Step 3Walk through the pedestrian entrance
This is where you pay. On foot it is $20 per person for seven days, or you show a vehicle pass or an annual pass you already hold. Fees, passes and the 2026 surcharge.
- Step 4Cross to the visitor center
A footbridge over the Virgin River. Allow ten minutes at an unhurried pace, more with children or in a queue.
- Step 5Join the canyon shuttle line
First bus 7:00am, then every five to ten minutes. In peak season the queue at the visitor center is the real bottleneck of the day, not the road. How to beat it.
The timing problem, stated plainly
The canyon shuttle starts at 7:00am. The town shuttle starts at 8:00am. If you want the first canyon bus, the town bus cannot get you there, and you are walking or driving. That single hour is the reason position in Springdale matters at all, and it is why the hotels nearest the gate charge what they do.
What the town bus will not do for you
It does not enter the park
No trailheads, no scenic drive, no visitor center drop off. It stops at the town side of the entrance and turns around.
No pets
Dogs are not allowed on either shuttle, service animals aside. That single rule shapes an entire trip with a dog. What you can actually do with one.
No e-bikes
Barred from both lines. The canyon buses take three ordinary bicycles each. What that means if you are riding.
It also does not run all year. The town shuttle operates roughly March to November, and the canyon shuttle has its own seasonal gaps, which in 2026 are January 4 to March 6 and November 29 to December 25. In those windows the scenic drive opens to private vehicles instead, which changes a winter trip completely. Zion without the shuttle.
Exact first and last bus times shift with the season and the park adjusts them by news release. The 8:00am start and the 20 to 30 minute round trip above are the park’s published figures for the main season.
