There is one supermarket in town. It is good, it is open late, and it is the only one, which makes a small amount of planning worth more here than it would anywhere else.

Sol Foods, 995 Zion Park Boulevard
Sol Foods Supermarket describes itself as the only full service supermarket in Springdale, and as far as we can establish that is accurate. It is open 7:00am to 11:00pm daily.
It carries what a supermarket carries, plus a deli, a salad bar and a bakery, and a hardware section that exists because in a town this size somebody has to sell you a propane canister or a tent peg at nine at night.
The 11:00pm close is the part that matters most to a Zion trip. You can come off a long hike at eight in the evening, eat, and still shop for tomorrow. That is not true of much else in town.
What it is genuinely good for
Trail food, water, breakfast to carry, deli sandwiches made to take up the canyon, ice, sunscreen, and the small camp item you forgot. Also a hot meal from the deli at an hour when the restaurants are winding down.
What to expect on price
A single supermarket at the gate of a national park, supplied down a long highway, is not going to price like a chain store in a city. We do not publish prices because they move, but budget above what you would pay at home and you will not be surprised.
Shop once on the way through
The bigger chain supermarkets are back down State Route 9 in Hurricane and La Verkin, and the widest choice is in St George, which sits at the far end of the 42 mile bus route.
Almost everyone arriving at Springdale drives through those towns to get there. Half an hour of shopping on the way in, while you still have an empty car and no urgency, saves both money and the evening you would otherwise spend queueing in a small store at the busiest hour of its day.
What is worth carrying in: bulk water, breakfast for the week, anything specific your family will not compromise on, coffee if you are particular, and a cool box. What is not worth it: fresh bread and anything that suffers in a hot car, because a vehicle parked in Springdale in July gets very hot indeed. July averages 100°F.
If you are arriving without a car, this does not apply and Sol Foods is simply your shop. The SunTran bus from St George runs Monday to Saturday and there is no Sunday service, so plan a Sunday around what you already have. Doing Zion without a car.
Alcohol works differently in Utah
Where you can buy beer, wine and spirits in Utah is not the same as in most states, and the rules have been revised more than once. Springdale has a brewery and a winery among its businesses, which is not the same thing as a shop. If it matters to your trip, check the current position with the state rather than assuming, because assuming is how people end up disappointed on a Sunday evening.
There is no food in the canyon
Once you are past the visitor center, the only food service on the scenic drive is at Zion Lodge. That is it, for the whole canyon.
So every hiking day in Zion is a packed lunch day, whether you planned one or not. People discover this at eleven in the morning at the Temple of Sinawava with a granola bar between two of them.
What a Zion day actually demands is more water than you expect and more salt than you expect. Summer highs average 100°F in July and the canyon walls radiate heat back at you. The park’s own advice for hot weather hiking centres on drinking enough and eating enough salty food to use it, and the second half of that gets ignored.
Water
Buy it in volume and fill at the visitor center rather than carrying single bottles. There are filling points at the visitor center and at Zion Lodge.
Salt
Crisps, salted nuts, jerky, electrolyte tablets. Unglamorous and the thing that keeps a hot afternoon from going wrong.
Lunch that survives
Sandwiches made at the deli that morning, hard fruit, wrapped cheese. Nothing that needs a cool box you are not carrying.
Pack it out, all of it
Orange peel and apple cores are still litter in a desert canyon, and they do not break down the way people assume. Whatever goes up the canyon in your bag comes back down in it. Which hikes need a full lunch and which need a snack.
What the campground does not give you
Watchman Campground has a dump station and no showers listed among its facilities, which shapes a week more than most people expect. Sol Foods is a short distance down the boulevard and is effectively the campground shop, which is why the hardware aisle and the 11:00pm close matter so much to campers.

Buy ice daily
In a Zion summer a cool box is a losing battle, not a solved problem. Plan on a daily top up rather than one big shop.
Store food properly
Leaving food out at a campsite in a national park attracts wildlife and creates a problem for the animal, not just for you. Use your vehicle or a hard container.
