Privacy policy
A short, honest account of what happens to data when you use this site. It is deliberately specific rather than a generic template, because a policy that does not describe the actual site is worth nothing to you and nothing to us.
We do not want your data and we do not sell it
This is a small independent travel site. We do not run accounts, we do not take payments, and we do not take bookings. There is no login, no basket and no customer record, because there is nothing here to buy.
What does happen is ordinary web hosting: a server records requests, analytics software counts visits, and if you write to us we keep the message so we can reply. That is close to the whole of it, and the sections below say so precisely.
What is collected, and why

What we deliberately do not do
We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone. We do not run advertising networks on this site. We do not build profiles of individual readers, and we have no interest in doing so. There is no newsletter and no mailing list at the time of writing, so nothing is being collected for one.
Three kinds, and one of them is coming
Necessary cookies are set by the site software so pages load and preferences persist. Blocking them tends to break things.
Analytics cookies count visits and pages. They tell us that a page was read, not who read it.
Affiliate cookies. At the time of writing this site carries no affiliate links. When it does, clicking through to an operator may set a cookie belonging to that operator or their booking platform, which records that the visit came from here so that any resulting booking is credited to us. That cookie is theirs and is governed by their privacy policy, not this one. See the affiliate disclosure, which is kept current.
You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time. Nothing on this site requires them beyond the software working normally.
Who else can see anything
A site like this one always involves a few other companies, and they are the ones with your data rather than us:
- The hosting provider, which serves the pages and keeps the server logs.
- The analytics provider, which counts the visits.
- Google Fonts, which serves the two typefaces this site uses. Loading a font is a request to their servers.
- Operators and booking platforms, if you follow a link to one. From that moment you are on their site under their policy, and we have no visibility of what you do there.
We may disclose information if we are legally required to. That is the only circumstance.
What you can ask for
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to processing, or to have it provided in a portable form. Readers in the European Union and United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR, and readers in California have comparable rights under the CCPA and CPRA.
In practice, the only personal data this site is likely to hold about you is a message you sent us. Ask and we will delete it. Everything else sits with the host and the analytics provider, and you can clear analytics cookies yourself from your browser.
To make a request, use the contact page. We aim to answer within thirty days.
Children. This site is aimed at adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, and if you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes. If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the foot of this page. The version you are reading is the current one.
